This inquiry can be related to by students on Vancouver Island especially because dentalium shells were harvested by the Nuu-Chah-Nulth Peoples in the 1900's, and they were traded as a monetary symbol all over North America. These shells were not easy to get to. They were found deep in the water, so a machine needed to be developed to harvest them.
