Rounding with Groceries

Today, my Grade 6 math students practiced our new strategy of rounding when we tried to feed ourselves a healthy breakfast, lunch, and dinner with less than $20.00. All students succeeded in buying food to make meals with less than $20.00, although, I am not sure how well bacon and canned stew would be for you 3 meals a day! In any case, the students really excelled in this activity, so I have another similar practice assignment tomorrow. Students will have to buy at least four books from our October Scholastic Book Order Form with $40.00. They will have to decide on the number of and the price of books through rounding the digits to the nearest dollar.
